Join me for a relaxed and creative day of sewing, where you will learn how to make your own professionally finished lined tote bag which will be completely unique to you
Suitable for: From beginners to confident sewers, as long as you come with a willingness to try, good humour and an open mind
Workshop Details:
🕙 Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (With an hour break for lunch)
📍 Location: My Brighton Studio, 11 Beaconsfield Studios, 25 Ditchling Rise, BN14QL
🎟 Price: £75 - Bring your own fabric
£95 - Use my dead stock and vintage fabrics
What’s Included:
- Step-by-step tuition from Holly in a small, supportive group
- Paper Pattern for your Tote Bag
- All materials to make your tote bag (if you choose that option)
- Webbing for straps will be provided or you can bring your own
- Printed instructions with clear easy to follow steps to take home
- Use of tools (scissors, tailors chalk, pins, sewing machine )
- Tea/Coffee (Please bring your own lunch/snacks or I can recommend nearby places to to grab something)
What You’ll Learn:
- How to lay up a paper pattern and clearly mark it out
- How to cut your bag and lining out
- How to assemble your bag including seam allowances, edge stitching and well constructed corners
- Adding handles: you can have 2 hand carry/shoulder straps and 1 crossbody strap
- Tips for finishing touches, pressing and structure
You’ll leave with a finished and stylish tote bag – handmade by completely by you and a paper pattern with clear instructions so you can go away and make another one :)
Bring your own fabric:
If you choose bring your own fabric option this is how much fabric you will need:
Large Tote ( you will need to choose either the circular OR stripe motif)
Main bag fabric - 1 meter 10cm x 50cm
Circular Motif - 30cm x 30cm
Stripe Motif - 55cm x 20 cm
Lining - 1 meter 10cm x 40cm
Small Tote (you will need to choose either the circular OR stripe motif)
Main bag fabric - 75cm x 40cm
Circular Motif - 20cm x 20cm
Stripe Motif - 37cm x 15cm
Lining - 75cm x 30cm
Should you wish to bring your own straps you will need approximately 2 x 60cm straps and 1 x 90cm strap
Ideally your outer fabric should be something with a little bit of 'guts' like a denim or a canvas (old jean legs are a good way to use up old fabrics) and your lining should be a nice slightly lighter weight fabric like a duvet cover or tea towels (nothing too flimsy )
Bookings and Cancellations:
If you can no longer make it, please let us know as soon as you can
If you let us know at least 7 days in advance, we’re happy to issue you a full refund
5-7 days notice and we will refund 50% of the cost of the workshop
If we receive less than 5 days’ notice unfortunately you will be liable for the entire cost of the workshop unless you are able to transfer the event to a friend as a gift. You will need to inform us if this is the case
We reserve the right to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, if this happens you would receive a full refund.
