ABOUT

I’ve designed and made things for as long as I can remember….my mum was a wardrobe mistress so the sewing machine was always out, and I was always on it

I’m never happier than when I’m in my studio hands on, chopping things up, piecing bits together to see how they look and problem solving. I studied sculpture at Newcastle university and have always had a strong eye for form, scale, and a bold silhouette. This combined with my love of colour has led me down several paths including costume design for dance and theatre, as well as freelance work for major fashion brands such as Burberry and Dunhill

I have always made a lot of my own clothes too, mostly from vintage fabrics and curtains, sometimes transforming an unworn vintage dress or skirt into a much loved blouse…I even unravelled a seldom worn jumper as I loved the wool and a very talented pal knitted it into a new favourite for me.

Holly M Atelier came about as I couldn’t find the perfect bag that I wanted…something practical, but stylish and elegant too

I design, cut and make everything myself so I know when my pieces go to their new homes I have seen every stage and stitch along the way

I wear test all of my designs, so I’m sure they work whether you’re out for a fabulous special eve, walking the dog, or whizzing along on your bike

I run Holly M Atelier from a shared studio in Brighton which I co-manage. I’m able to walk to work and have my gorgeous little dog Biba in the studio with me…most days start with her and Frida, the other studio dog having a lovely play together whilst the coffee is made and everyone sets up for the day
